FRANKFORT, Maine — A local woman who called 911 Thursday to report she was stuck in a snowbank ended up being charged with driving under the influence.
Julie Tufts, 52, told emergency dispatchers she had gone off the road and didn’t know exactly where she was, according to a media release issued Friday by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Darrin Moody managed to locate Tufts and her vehicle on the Loggin Road in Frankfort. While he was helping her, he noticed there was a container of alcohol in the vehicle and that Tufts seemed to be “under the influence of intoxicants,” the news release stated. Moody also learned Tufts was under bail conditions imposed on her following a Jan. 8 arrest on a charge of operating under the influence.
Moody arrested Tufts on Thursday and charged her with operating under the influence and with violation of conditions of release. Tufts was taken to the Waldo County Correctional Center, where she remained Friday unable to make bail set at $500.
