Mount Desert Island continued its domination of the Penobscot Valley Conference on Saturday afternoon.
Lydia DaCorte and Leila Johnston each won two individual events and participated in a pair of relay wins, sparking the Trojans girls to a convincing victory at Husson University’s Webber Pool in Bangor.
Coach Tony DeMuro’s girls squad cruised to its third consecutive conference title with 313 points, well ahead of runner-up Bangor at 209. John Bapst of Bangor finished third (143), followed by Foxcroft Academy (137) and Old Town (111).
Rounding out the top 10 were Orono (102), George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill (99), Brewer (76), Hampden Academy(49) and Ellsworth (41).
DaCorte and Johnston set the tone for MDI.
Sophomore DaCorte defended her individual championships in the 50 freestyle and the 100 free, winning with times of 25.36 seconds and 55.01 seconds, respectively. She was 4.27 seconds faster than runner-up Lily Waddell of Bangor in the 100.
DaCorte also teamed up with Maddie Woodworth, Avalon Kerley and Johnston to take the 200 medley relay in 1:53.84, good for a four-second margin over Foxcroft.
Johnston, a senior, claimed top honors in the 100 butterfly (57.06), almost seven seconds in front of the field, and the 100 backstroke (59.54), five seconds better than the runner-up.
Those performances were backed up with a well-rounded effort from the rest of the Trojans. A total of 15 swimmers and divers scored points in the meet.
Kerley, a junior, placed second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley and Chelsea Schroeder was the runner-up in the diving competition. Other contributors included Wright (5th 200 free, 7th 500 free), Ceileigh Weaver (5th 50 free, 10th 100 breaststroke), Woodworth (4th 100 backstroke, 6th 200 IM) and Eliza Schleif (5th 100 free, 7th 200 free).
Also providing depth in MDI’s win were freestyler Mary Ellen Sharp, Aubrie Boyce, Kirstin DiMauro, Rebecca Gerrish, Rachel Jacobs, Abby Kelly, Annie Painter and Bailey Cust.
Senior Julia Annis of Foxcroft Academy won her second consecutive title in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.99) and earned second in the 50 freestyle. Ponies freshman Jenna Clukey won the 200 free (2:06.77) and was second in the 100 butterfly.
Freshman Erin Aucoin of Brewer took home the gold in the 500 freestyle (5:53.66), only three seconds ahead of GSA’s Maya Pelletier, and was the runner-up in the 200 free. Sophomore Hannah Wood of Bangor captured the 200 individual medley in 2:18.37 to take the event for the second straight year and was fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Kassidy Harriman of Old Town won the diving competition with 311.18 points.
Bangor’s quartet of Lily Waddell, Morgan Jones, Lilli Wiseman and Wood breezed to a five-second win in the 400 free relay, clocking a 3:56.59.
