BASEBALL

PRESQUE ISLE — The Northern Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires will begin its annual clinic for prospective umpires at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24, at Northern Maine Community College in the Edmonds Conference. Successful candidates will begin umpiring sub-varsity games this spring. The class will meet for seven weeks. The cost of the clinic is $40, which includes rule books, printed materials and the exam. BASKETBALL

BANGOR — Tournament passes for the Maine Principals Association Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament will be on sale 2-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, Feb. 10-12, at the Cross Center in the main lobby of the VIP parking area. The adult all-tournament ticket will be $105 for 20 sessions; and $65 for senior citizens (age 65 and older) and students, for 20 sessions. The adult all-tournament ticket for any site or class will be $70 for 10 sessions; or $40 for seniors and students.

BAILEYVILLE — Registration is open for the 2015 annual Down East Credit Union basketball tournaments to be held March 21-22 for girls and March 28-29 for boys. The cost is $120 per team. OLD TOWN — The Old Town Recreation Center will hold three youth basketball tournaments in March. The Jr. Coyote Classic is open to youth travel basketball teams, which are set up for B Level teams, and will not be open to AAU caliber teams. Entry to the tournament is $200. Teams will play a minimum of three games.The dates for the tournaments are: March 14-15 for third and fourth grade boys; March 20-22 for fifth and sixth grade girls; and March 28-29 for fifth and sixth grade boys. SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Registration open to girls and boys junior high and high school basketball teams for the 23rd annual Great Harbor Shoot-Out basketball tournament March 20-23, at area gyms on Mount Desert Island, Trenton and Ellsworth. Last year, nearly 90 teams participated in the fundraiser for Harbor House and area youth programs. There will be four divisions for junior high and high school girls and boys teams. Volunteers are needed to help with the various event activities, and sponsors are welcome. Sponsorships may be mailed to Harbor House at P.O. Box 836, Southwest Harbor 04679. GOLF

BREWER — The Brewer Parks & Recreation Department will offer Tee Time Tune-up golf lessons, noon-1 p.m. beginning Thursday, March 12, in the Brewer Auditorium gymnasium. The four weeks of lessons are designed for players of all levels and will include fundamentals for the beginner as well as tips for the experienced player. Instructor will be Mark Hall, PGA professional. Cost is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Class size will be limited to the first 10 registered. ROAD RACING

ORONO — The Black Bear Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on June 21, on the University of Maine Campus in Orono. A Vendor Expo will be held June 20, in the University of Maine Fieldhouse. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. There is a 6-hour limit on the marathon course. There is an option to register for the early start time of 6:30 a.m. for those who feel they may need the extra hour to finish the marathon. Early start is not available for the half marathon. The half marathon course will start on campus and travel through Orono and Old Town back to the bike path on campus. The full marathon course is a double loop of the half. ROLLER DERBY

HAMPDEN — The 2015 home season opener and first doubleheader for Bangor Roller Derby will be 4 p.m. featuring Bangor vs. Aroostook Roller Derby; and at 6 p.m. Bangor vs. Les Duchesses of Roller Derby Quebec, at Skehan Recreation Center, 1 Main Road North. DJZ Entertainment will be there laying down the soundtrack. Tickets are $7 presale from skaters or $10 at the door for both bouts and $5 after the first bout. Children 12 and under are free. Doors open at 3 p.m. An after party will be held at Tantrum Night Club 193 Broad St.

BANGOR — Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2015 Ski and Snowboard lessons at Hermon Mountain. Session 2 will be Feb. 3-March 3, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Each offers four, one-hour lessons and up to an hour of free ski time. Transportation to and from the mountain is participant’s responsibility. Fees for the ski program are $75 for a Bangor resident, and $85 for a nonresident per session. Fees for snowboarding are $95 for Bangor residents, and $105 for nonresidents, per session.
