SMYRNA, Maine — An Oakfield man was arrested over the weekend after leading state police on a chase through three southern Aroostook towns before being forcibly stopped and ending up in a snowbank, according to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police.
Christian McDonald, 26, was charged with driving to endanger, operating after revocation and violation of bail conditions after he failed to stop for Sgt. Alden Bustard of the Maine State Police for a motor vehicle violation just before 11 p.m. Sunday in Smyrna.
Instead, Harris said, McDonald took off at “high speeds” and attempted to elude Bustard.
Bustard, with Trooper Dennis Quint, chased McDonald from Smyrna to Linneus to River Road in Oakfield, where Bustard conducted a “vehicle immobilization” on McDonald’s pickup truck, Harris said.
McDonald subsequently lost control of the truck and became stuck in a snowbank.
He was arrested at the scene without further incident, Harris said.
On Monday morning Lt. John Cote of the Maine State Police Houlton Barracks said his officers have several options to terminate pursuits but would not comment on the specific maneuver used in stopping McDonald.
McDonald was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton and will appear in Houlton District Court at a later date.
The incident remains under investigation and Harris said further charges are likely.
