ROCKWOOD, Maine — A North Carolina man was killed Saturday in a snowmobile crash in Piscataquis County, officials said.

Arthur Meuse, 42, was riding along the Route 66 trail when he lost control and crashed, Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said.

Meuse, who was heading south on the trail, was ejected from his sled and thrown in front of a snowmobile heading north, according to MacDonald. The northbound sled ran Meuse over.

Meuse was pronounced dead at the scene, MacDonald said.

Rockwood Fire and Rescue assisted game wardens at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
