MARS HILL, Maine — A Mars Hill man had to be subdued with a Taser after allegedly refusing to submit to a search and tussling with an Aroostook County Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday evening.

Aaron Jones, 37, was arrested and charged with violation of conditions of release, refusing to submit to arrest and assault.

At about 5 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff Sgt. Matt Cummings was at 21 Silver Street in Mars Hill to arrest a woman on an outstanding warrant, Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall said Monday.

The woman, whose name is not being released, was not at the home, but Cummings allegedly found Jones at the residence.

Jones is out on bail for trafficking bath salts, Crandall said, and conditions of that bail require him to submit to law enforcement searches for drugs at any time.

Crandall said Cummings attempted to search Jones at the residence after observing the man “acting strange.”

When Jones allegedly refused to submit to the search, Cummings attempted to arrest him for violating his conditions of bail.

A scuffle allegedly ensued between Cummings and Jones, who is described as 6-foot-2 and weighs 240 pounds.

Cummings used a Taser to subdue Jones.

Evidence of drug possession was seized from Jones, according to Crandall, and additional charges may be filed pending laboratory analysis of that evidence.

Neither Cummings nor Jones were seriously injured in the altercation, Crandall said.

Jones remains at the Aroostook County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Presque Isle District Court on April 8.
