The Thornton Academy girls indoor track team won its second straight title, and the Falmouth boys captured their first state title since moving to Class A on Monday at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.

The Trojans received a huge lift from senior Tori Daigle who placed first the in the 55-meter hurdles (8.61 seconds), long jump (18 feet, 2 inches) and triple jump (37-9.5) as she tallied 30 points.

Thornton sophomore Samantha Curran won the shot put, throwing 38-.75, and senior Alexandra Pettaway placed third in the 55-meter dash, fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump to outdistance the second-place Lewiston Blue Devils.

Lewiston was led by senior Heather Kendall, who picked up two state titles, winning the 55- meter dash in 7.36 seconds and the 200 with a 26.37 time. She also ran the first leg of the 4×200 relay team, which finished first, running 1:50.76.

Thornton Academy finished with 53 points while Lewiston trailed by just a few points with 49. Scarborough finished third (43) with Cheverus of Portland (33) and Bonny Eagle of Standish (31) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 21-team meet.

Junior Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle won the mile for the second straight year, running 5:20.35, and Tessa Cassidy of Brunswick won the two mile, running 11:43.76, while Anna Slager of Gorham trailed by less than a second at 11:44.66.

There was more drama on the boys side as the Scarborough Red Storm led the Falmouth Yachtsmen 52-49 heading into the 4×200 meter relay, the meet’s final event. Falmouth ran a state-leading time of 1:33.15 to win the relay while Scarborough placed fourth and the Yachtsmen prevailed 59-56 to capture the state crown.

Deering finished third with 43 points , while Brunswick (35) and Lewiston (32) finished right behind in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 25-team meet.

Falmouth received points from senior Bryce Murdick, who placed fifth in the mile (4:36.72), third in the two mile (10:01.73), and ran the second leg of the 4×800 meter relay. The Yachtsmen also had a huge boost in the 200-meter race as they had three runners in the top six overall.

The 200-meter dash turned out to to be the race of the day as Deering senior Henry Ramadan edged Bonny Eagle’s Jamie Dixon as he ran a time of 22.70 seconds, with Dixon finishing in 22.82. Ramadan’s day was just getting started as he set the state record in the 400 meters, finishing in 49.78 seconds, beating Dixon once again as Dixon finished in 50.50.

Sophomore Paul Casavant of Hampden Academy took home his first state title as he won the mile, running 4:24.65. Casavant would come back to place second in the two mile to Scarborough senior Jacob Terry, who won the event for the second straight year with a 9:49.76 clocking. Casavant was three seconds back in 9:52.50.

South Portland senior Michael Cuesta won the long jump, leaping to 21-2.25 feet and set a state leading distance for this season in the triple-jump, winning with a distance of 45-.25 feet.
