ROCKLAND, Maine — Rockland police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that struck a pedestrian Monday evening and left the scene.

Rockland police and emergency medical services staff responded at 5:56 p.m. to the report of 19-year-old Elizabeth Grotton lying in the road. The woman had been walking west on Maverick Street near the intersection of North Main Street with her back to traffic when she was clipped by a vehicle.

Sgt. Donald Finnegan said the woman was wearing dark clothing. She was not able to provide a description of the vehicle. The vehicle’s side mirror could have clipped the woman, he said.

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, the officer said, but she was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the hit and run is asked to call Knox County Regional Communications at 593-9132, and ask to speak with any Rockland police officer.
