BANGOR, Maine — The cause of the blaze that heavily damaged the Family Dollar on State Street on Feb. 9 is still under investigation and the Bangor Police Department wants to talk with shoppers who were in the store before it started.
“We are looking for anyone who was at that store just prior to the fire,” a Bangor Police Department Facebook post on Friday states. “Even if you did not see the fire start, start the fire or watch the fire after it started.”
Shoppers who were in the store before the fire are asked to call Detective Josh Kuhn at 947-7384, extension 95756.
The discount retail business at the intersection of State Street and Broadway was evacuated when the fire broke out shortly before 10:30 a.m. sending thick black smoke into the air that was visible for miles.
Sgt. Tim York of the State Fire Marshal’s office said Saturday evening that he could not discuss anything about the blaze including whether investigators believe it was arson or where in the store they believe the fire started.
“Still under investigation,” York said in an email. “No further info available until at least the middle of the week.”
While the investigation continues, Bangor police officials are collecting statements from anybody who has information about the case or who was in the store on the morning of Feb. 9.
“You can also leave a message on the tip line and enjoy the super power of anonymity,” the department’s Facebook post states.
Bangor Police Department’s tip-line can be reached by calling 947-7384, extension 6.
