Customer Experience Award
BANGOR — Westgate Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer’s Care announced recently that it the recipient of Pinnacle Quality Insight’s 2015 Customer Experience Award. Qualifying for the award in the categories of Nursing Care, Overall Satisfaction, Individual Needs, Laundry Service, Response to Problems, Treatment-Dignity, Recommend to Others, Communication from Facility, Safety and Security, and Combined Average, Westgate Center displayed a continued dedication to providing Best in Class senior healthcare services, according to a press release.
By qualifying for the award, Westgate Center has satisfied the rigorous demand of scoring in the top 15 percent of the nation across a 12-month average.
Grant for mammograms
BANGOR — Maine Caring Connections announced recently it has received a $15,000 grant through Mammograms in Action that will provide free breast health services for young women.
Caring Connections is a cooperative women’s health program of the Bangor YMCA and Eastern Maine Medical Center. The program, Bridging the Gap, provides free services to women 30 to 39 years old with a strong personal or family history of breast cancer and-or a symptom of concern; women who are 20 to 29 years old with a symptom of concern; have little or no insurance to cover breast health services; and meet income guidelines.
Services include clinical breast examinations, mammograms and breast ultrasound.
Limited diagnostic or follow-up services are available through Bridging the Gap. Should a woman enrolled in Bridging the Gap need further diagnostic testing or treatment for breast cancer, these services would be provided at no cost through Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Caring Connections also provides no-cost breast and cervical health services for women 40 to 64 who meet program guidelines, and support for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer.

New staff member
BANGOR — Penobscot Community Health Care announced recently that Family Nurse Practitioner Samara Shiromani has joined the medical staff of PCHC’s Penobscot Community Health Center, 1012 Union St.
Shiromani received an undergraduate degree from Boston University, graduating cum laude,
and a nursing degree from Simmons College School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Before joining PCHC, Shiromani served at Commonwealth Community Care in Boston where she provided comprehensive home-based primary care to adults with complex medical needs.
