ALFRED, Maine — A Biddeford man arrested in November and charged with running down and killing his mother has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter.

In addition to the Class A felony, Shane Jones, 26, also faces charges of Class C felony reckless conduct with a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident, according to indictments released recently by a York County grand jury.

Jones allegedly hit his mother, 49-year-old Kimberly Jones, during the early-evening hours of Nov. 23 as she stood in a driveway near Jones’ Brackett Street home. He then allegedly fled the scene.

Police searched for Jones for five days before eventually arresting him in Sanford.

Jones has a criminal history. He and his mother were arrested in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries in 2007 and charged with burglary. Later, the younger Jones accidentally was released from York County Jail after he masqueraded as somebody else, but he was captured quickly and charged with escape and aggravated forgery.
