NEW LONDON, New Hampshire — Colby-Sawyer outscored the University of Maine-Farmington 7-3 in the last 3:33 on Tuesday night to secure a 62-58 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball quarterfinal victory.
The fourth-seeded Chargers (16-10) move on to play No. 1 and tournament host Castleton State in Friday’s 6 p.m. semifinal at Castleton, Vermont.
Amanda Calvo went 5-for-7 from the 3-point arc on her way to a game-best 23 points for Colby-Sawyer. Jessica Shenkel posted 12 points and five rebounds, while Kelsey Cahill contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.
Meghan Smith registered a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds, along with three assists, two steals and two blocks, for the No. 5 Beavers (11-15).
NEC 72, MMA 43
At Henniker, New Hampshire, the third-seeded Chargers scored 24 points as a result of Mariner turnovers to earn a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal victory.
Kayla Lawlor scored a game-high 23 points for New England College (20-6), which advances to play No. 2 Husson University of Bangor in Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal at Castleton, Vermont. Taylor Burgess tallied 15 points and seven rebounds and Mariani Lillard added 10 points, eight assists and four steals for the winners.
Kristi Willi led No. 6 Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (12-14) with 14 points. Mary Badeen provided 13 points and five rebounds.
Men’s Basketball
Castleton 70, Thomas 60
At Castleton, Vermont, Chad Copeland posted a double-double of 19 points and 18 rebounds and also added five assists and four blocked shots as No. 4 Castleton State earned a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal win over No. 5 Thomas College of Waterville.
Casey McGraw provided 13 points and six rebounds, Carnelius Green scored 12 points and Rob Coloutti chipped in with 10 for the Spartans (14-12), who face top-seeded Colby-Sawyer in Friday’s 6 p.m. semifinal at New London, New Hampshire.
Eric Westbrooks poured in a game-high 25 points for the Terriers (12-14), while Levi Barnes netted 17 points.
