ROCKLAND, Maine — An Owls Head man who robbed a Rockport pharmacy last year while wearing a plastic shopping bag over his head will serve another six years in prison.
Justice Daniel Billings sentenced Donald R. Keating Jr., 56, to 10 years in prison with all but one year suspended. In addition, the judge revoked Keating’s probation and imposed five previously suspended years that will be served after the one year. Upon release, Keating will be on probation for an additional nine years.
When he committed his latest crime, Keating had been on probation for a 2003 conviction on 11 counts of sexually assaulting a girl. In that case, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with all but seven years suspended and was placed on probation for six years.
The robbery was the third violation of his probation for the sexual assault case, according to Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Baroody.
Keating walked into the pharmacy Sept. 9 wearing a plastic Hannaford bag over his head with two eye holes cut out, went to the counter and demanded drugs, according to police. He told employees they had 30 seconds to meet his demand, the prosecutor said.
After he was handed the drugs, the Owls Head man fled the parking lot on foot, then drove away in a vehicle that had been parked in an adjacent parking lot. A witness identified the car, and police were able to apprehend Keating at his home later that day.
