ORONO, Maine — Senior center Rebecca Fleming’s goal at the 10:31 mark of overtime gave the UConn Huskies a 1-0 women’s hockey victory over the Maine Black Bears and a sweep of their Hockey East quarterfinal series Saturday at Alfond Arena.
UConn won 3-2 on Friday night.
Fleming provided UConn with its fourth win in eight days over Maine off a three-on-two rush which also involved Margaret Zimmer and Reese Maccario.
Zimmer took a pass from Maccario and snapped off a shot that was saved by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy.
However, the rebound spilled over to Fleming and she fired it past Treacy.
Elaine Chuli made 45 saves for the 11-17-8 Huskies while Treacy finished with 26.
Maine wound up 10-19-3 after losing its eighth straight game. The Black Bears scored just nine goals in the eight losses and suffered their eighth shutout.
Maine’s Katy Massey of Waterville broke the career record for games played by appearing in her 132nd game. Myriam Croussette, Dawn Sullivan and Cheryl White had shared the previous record of 131.
