FARMINGTON, Maine — A Jay man was arrested Monday in connection with a gross sexual assault case in New Sharon, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said.

Joseph Begin, 37, faces three counts of gross sexual assault, which occurred in March 2014, according to Nichols.

One of the attacks required the victim to seek medical attention, Nichols added.

The sheriff said the victim did not report the incidents for fear of her life until she recently notified Lt. David St. Laurent and Maine State Police Detective Randall Keaton of the incidents.

Begin was arrested at home without incident and is held on $25,000 cash bail at the Franklin County Jail, Nichols said.

The case remains under investigation.
