GRAY, Maine — While National Weather Service forecasters were unclear Thursday how much precipitation a predicted weekend storm could produce, it’s possible several inches of fresh powder could fall.

“It’s hard to say right now,” said Tom Hawley, a forecaster at the weather service’s Gray office. “This is not going to make it all the way up to northern Maine. I think this may stay south of Houlton.”

Hawley said the storm system, predicted to move into the state on Saturday and last into Sunday, is likely to produce snow and a mix of snow and rain along the coast.

“It looks like it could be a plowable event,” he said.

Hawley said heavier snow is not expected to move in until Saturday night.

The predicted storm comes just a few days after the state experienced spring-like temperatures.
