WINTER HAVEN, Florida — The Husson University Eagles used a six-run fourth inning to record a 9-3 softball victory over Wheaton College Thursday.

Casey Lopes smacked a bases-loaded double and drove in three runs to highlight Husson’s big inning. Lyndsay Merrill and Erika Parker each added an RBI single.

In the fourth, Husson’s Deb Colpitts got things going when she put the ball in play and Sami Schultz scored on an error. Lyndsay Merrill followed that up with a base hit to score Brianna Bires and Lopes followed with her three-run double. Parker added some insurance with a single to score Lopes.

Kayla Merrill earned the win for Husson (3-4), pitching the final four scoreless innings and giving up just two hits. She and Lyndsay Merrill each finished with two hits.

Emily Bouthillette notched three hits for Wheaton (6-3).

BU 5, Maine 2

At Clearwater, Florida, Jilee Schanda’s two-run double in the seventh sparked a three-run inning that lifted Boston University by the Black Bears.

The Bears (9-11) scored two runs in the bottom of the first when EmJ Fogel and Jessica Burk came across on Janelle Bouchard’s single.

Freshman Annie Kennedy took the loss for the Bears as she gave up five runs and 11 hits in 6 ⅔ innings, striking out two.

Gabi Martinez homered for BU (3-14).

Baseball

Wheaton 9, Husson 2

At Leesburg, Florida, Jared Clement scattered two runs over seven innings to lead Wheaton by the Eagles of Bangor.

Zachary Goodwin-Boyd had two hits and a home run for Wheaton (4-3).

Jordan Carter sparked Husson (1-6) with a double and home run. JT Whitten and Andrew Curran each added a hit.

USM records sweep

At Auburndale, Florida, Paul McDonough hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give 8th-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies a 3-1 victory over the Roger Williams University Hawks in the first game of a doubleheader.

In the second game, the Huskies (4-0) scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a two-run deficit and take a 6-2 victory over the Hawks (1-7).

Sam Dexter hit a solo home run and singled twice in the first game for USM.

Senior reliever Andrew Richards came on in the seventh for the Huskies after the Hawks got a runner to second and ended the threat with a strikeout and a groundout. Richards would go on to pitch 3 2/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief to earn his first win of the season.

In the second game, down 2-0 going into their final at bat, the Huskies sent 11 men to the plate to score six times. Anthony Capuano had a two-run single.
