MONSON, Maine — A 56-year-old Monson man has been charged with criminal threatening with a firearm after he allegedly pointed a rifle at two Piscataquis County deputies serving a protection from harassment order against him Thursday morning.
Quinton King was scheduled to be released from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Friday evening after being treated for a gunshot wound, according to Piscataquis County Sheriff John Goggin. King will be taken to Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft and bail has been set at $75,000 cash.
King is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge in Piscataquis County District Court on Monday.
According to Goggin, Deputies Kyle Wilson and David Wilson attempted to serve a protection-from-harassment order around 10 a.m. Thursday on King at his residence on Nana’s Drive, a small dirt road off Tenney Hill in Monson.
According to authorities, after deputies knocked on the door of King’s home and explained why they were there, King slammed the door.
As the deputies were leaving the area, the door opened again and King “stepped out with a rifle and started loading it,” said the sheriff.
The deputies told him to drop the weapon, but he reportedly pointed it directly at the officers. One of the deputies fired a single shot that passed through King’s rib cage and hit him in the arm, the sheriff said.
“He dropped the weapon, but when the deputies started walking toward him, he acted as if he was going to pick it up again. Then the officer hit with him a Taser,” Goggin said.
Goggin said that the investigation is continuing into what prompted King’s actions.
“He threatened the [Monson] town office employees, some firefighters and his neighbors before this all started,” Goggin said.
Part of the investigation has been turned over to the Maine attorney general’s office, which routinely handles officer-related shootings.
