LINCOLN, Maine — A local woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly trying to sell three $100 store gift certificates purchased with a stolen credit card, police said Wednesday.
Katie Smith, 24, of Lincoln was charged Tuesday with felony theft due to unauthorized taking and illegal possession of hypodermic apparatus, police said.
Officer John Walsh arrested Smith after receiving a report on Monday that Smith had been trying to sell to a friend gift certificates that were purchased at Dollar Tree of Lincoln. When Walsh and Detective Mark Fucile interviewed Smith, she said she had used a family member’s credit card number, but family members said she did not have permission to use the card, Fucile said.
Smith also allegedly had 14 hypodermic needles in her possession that police said were used to administer illegal drugs.
Smith was due to make her initial court appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center on Wednesday after being held overnight on $100 cash bail at Penobscot County Jail, a corrections officer said.
She is due in that court again on June 11, Fucile said.
