GARDINER, Maine — At 800 pounds, Thomas Towle was at his heaviest. In the past five years, he’s lost 500 of those pounds and he says he’s gotten his life back.

When Towle was at his heaviest, he says he could hardly move, much less walk. Everyone had given up on him, including himself.

Towle had no plan to commit to losing the weight until he took a trip to a water park with his little brother and sister. He says he couldn’t fit on one of the slides and it was the disappointment he saw in his siblings’ faces that made him want to change.

And since then, Towle hasn’t stopped.

“I have so much energy now,” he said. “I’m able to work a full-time job, I’m a full-time college student, I also have a job at the University of Maine in the trio program. I never dreamed that I could do all of that and I know if I let myself slip one bit, all of that goes away.”

Right now Towle weighs 270 pounds. He would like to lose more, but first he’ll have to have surgery to remove excess skin. That’s something he’s in the process of raising money for. If you would like to donate to Towle’s cause, visit www.GoFundMe.com/ThomasTowle.
