BREWER, Maine — Brewer police, with the assistance of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested two local men Wednesday and Thursday on cocaine trafficking charges, Brewer police Lt. Christopher Martin said late Thursday afternoon.

Charged with trafficking in illegal drugs were Fred McPhee, 21, and Marcus Amerson, 23, who resided together at the same South Main Street residence in Brewer, Martin said.

Martin said the arrests are the result of the investigative efforts of Brewer police Officer Zachary Caron, Detective Kristie Bouchard, Officer Amy Nickerson, Officer Mike Wilson and Sgt. Fred Luce.

McPhee was arrested on Wednesday, after Brewer police and MDEA agents executed a search warrant at McPhee and Amerson’s home. Officer Caron, the lead investigator in the case, arrested Amerson on Thursday.

Both suspects remained at Penobscot County Jail Thursday night and both are scheduled to make initial court appearances on Friday at the Penobscot Judicial Center, a jail official said.

Bail for Amerson was set at $50,000 cash. McPhee, who also was charged with violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest, is being held without bail.

The investigation that led to the two arrests is ongoing, Martin said.
