BATH, Maine — A beloved Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Officer passed away Tuesday, March 10, after a medical issue with his stomach.
Rocko, a German Shepard, worked with the department for eight years before retiring in 2012 due to hip problems.
Rocko’s handler, Cpl. Ian Alexander, said he got Rocko when he was a puppy and worked with him during Rocko’s eight years of service. Rocko lived with Alexander and his family even after he retired.
Rocko was a dual purpose K-9 officer. He did patrol work that consisted of tracking, apprehension, officer protection and drug searches.
Rocko responded to more than 1,000 calls of service during his career.
