A 2010 graduate of Bowdoin College living in Chicago was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his roommate several times with a butcher knife and biting off part of his ear, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Ross Jacobs, 27, is accused of going into his roommate’s room at around 3 a.m. Friday with a butcher knife, stabbing the victim several times and biting off part of his right ear, the newspaper reports.
The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries and Jacobs fled the apartment. Police tracked Jacobs to Dallas two days later when he withdrew money from an ATM. Jacobs was arrested Monday in Texas by local police on a charge of attempted murder.
According to the Tribune report, Jacobs was on medication for a mental illness.
Jacobs, a Chicago native, studied political philosophy at Bowdoin College before attending graduate school at the University of Chicago. According to a 2008 report in College News, Jacobs helped revive Bowdoin’s literary debate society while he was a student there.
