Brewer High School swimming coach Kathy Cahill received the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches’ Association Outstanding Service Award Saturday evening at the association’s national meeting held at NC State in Greensboro, North Carolina, site of the NCAA Division I national swimming and diving championships.
No more than five service awards are presented annually, and each recipient of the NISCA award has their name displayed at the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Among the four criteria considered for the honor are leadership at the city/state or national level as well as above average success as a coach.
Cahill has been active in various leadership and service roles throughout her career. She has coached Brewer swimming since 1988. She served as president of the Maine Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association from 2012-14 and has been a NISCA state delegate and presenter.
Cahill, a former Bangor High swimmer, remains an active member of the Maine association’s awards committee and recently authored a comprehensive manual for new coaches. For 20 years, she has directed the Penobscot Valley Conference boys championship.
At Brewer, she has served as chair of the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame’s historical performance sub committee.
