GRAY, Maine — An 11-year-old student at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School was arrested Wednesday on a juvenile summons for felony terrorizing after he allegedly made a bomb threat that prompted an evacuation and investigation.
The threat, which alleged a bomb was inside the school, was found about 10 a.m. on a scanner-printer in the middle school’s library, Lt. Donald Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The school was safely evacuated and bomb detection dogs from the Maine State Police and the Portland Police Department were brought in, Foss said. No bombs or explosive devices were found, he said.
During the subsequent evacuation, school officials determined the threat was sent from a student-issued computer. The 11-year-old boy, to whom the computer was assigned, was identified and his parents were contacted, Foss said.
Foss said the child was arrested on a Class C terrorizing charge for causing the school’s evacuation and then released to the custody of his parents.
The boy is scheduled to be arraigned April 30 in Portland Unified Court. The matter will be referred to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office’s Juvenile Division for prosecution, Foss said.
