BLUE HILL, Maine — A St. Albans woman is facing 18 charges of theft in connection with a string of allegedly fraudulent transactions involving nine area businesses, according to documents filed in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court.
Christin F. Martin, 31, is accused of stealing approximately $1,400 from the businesses as part of an advertising scheme, according to Hancock County District Attorney Matt Foster.
Foster said Tuesday that Martin allegedly promised the businesses she would print and distribute advertising fliers for them. She took between $100 and $225 from each business, he said.
“Those fliers were never produced,” the prosecutor said.
The thefts occurred between mid-August 2014 and Jan. 28 of this year, court documents indicate. Martin has been charged with one count of theft by deception and one count of theft by unauthorized taking for each of the nine victims in the case.
Among the businesses that lost money in the alleged scheme are an inn, a computer repair shop, a massage service, a car repair shop, an insurance agency, a construction firm, a pottery business and a dog boarding service.
Martin is due to appear in court on the charges on May 18, court documents indicate.
