CARIBOU, Maine — Normally, grey skies and rain would make for a gloomy weather forecast.

But for winter-weary Mainers, there is little gloom as record-breaking snow continues to steadily melt.

That process will get a significant jump Thursday and into Friday thanks to temperatures in the 40’s and rain expected to fall throughout Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing through Friday, according to the weather service.

While major flooding is not a concern, the combination of warm temperatures and rain will likely result in movement of ice along rivers, creating a possibility for minor flooding.

The only areas that have potential to see small floods are in urban and low lying areas because of clogged storm drains, according to the weather service.

While most of the state is expected to see rain, wet snow is possible in northern and western communities along the Canadian border Thursday night, according to the weather service.
