SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Scarborough Downs will kick off its harness racing season with 10-race programs set for Saturday and Sunday, with a 4 p.m. post time on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The track will make some adjustments in its upcoming schedule due to the long winter and low horse population. Projected rain, snow and gradual thawing will impact track conditions, according to news release from the track.

Races will not be held on Friday, April 3, and post times will move to 1 p.m. starting Saturday, April 4.

A total of 142 horses are entered for the weekend races, but an additional 40 to 50 would be needed for another card on Friday.

The track consulted with the Maine Harness Racing Commission and the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association and decided to stay with “the current Saturday and Sunday offering to allow the horse population to build,” according to the release.
