BIDDEFORD, Maine — Police used surveillance images of a man stealing paintings from a local gallery to identify him and issued a warrant for his arrest Friday evening. He was still on the lam Sunday evening, a Biddeford officer said.
Jachin Caron, 25, of Biddeford is wanted for theft. The police department posted two photos of the theft of paintings from North Dam Mill at 2 Main St. on its Facebook page.
“The images of the suspect have been widely distributed and we have received several useful and credible tips from citizens regarding the identity of the suspect,” the post says. “This case serves as a great example of how the community involvement works in assisting law enforcement to apprehend offenders. Without the information provided by several concerned citizens, we would not have come to this point in the investigation as quickly.”
Police are actively looking for Caron, but his current residence is not readily known. He had not been arrested as of 4 p.m. Sunday, a Biddeford officer said.
“We seek your assistance again, and ask that if you have any information as to the location of Caron or the items stolen, please contact the Biddeford Police Department at 282-5127,” the department’s Facebook page says. “It is important to remember that the possession of those items is, by itself, a crime.”
