BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University Eagles improved to 10-7 with a doubleheader sweep over the St. Joseph’s College Monks, 4-3 and 8-7 in 11 innings, in baseball action Tuesday at the Winkin Complex.
The Eagles rallied to win it in the seventh when JT Whitten’s double to left-center scored Kyle Bishop.
Dennis O’Neil (1-1) earned the victory as he scattered seven hits and three runs while not walking a batter and striking out one.
Bishop singled twice for the Eagles and Jordan Carter doubled and drove in two runs.
Taylor Black smacked a solo homer for the Monks (6-10) and Joe Coyne chipped in with three hits. Scott Betts added a double and an RBI.
Lebanon Valley 8, UMPI 0
At Annville, Pennsylvania, three different pitchers limited the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls to one hit over six innings to give Lebanon Valley the victory.
Jared McCabe was credited with the win after giving up a hit in three innings while not walking a batter and striking out three.
Brett Fundell sparked Lebanon Valley (7-8) with a double, single and two RBIs.
Tommy Collins singled for UMPI (2-4).
Men’s Lacrosse
USM 9, MMA 7
At Ritchie Field in Castine, the University Southern Maine Huskies took a six-goal lead at the end of the third quarter and then held off the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners for the win.
MMA’s Mike Fuller scored off a Jack Tragert assist at the 14:52 mark of the third quarter to cut USM’s lead to 6-3, but the Huskies responded with goals by Keegan Smith, Ed Barrasso and Austin Watts.
The Mariners rallied in the fourth quarter when Nicholas Betti scored two goals and Peter Moore and Bronson Guimond each added one.
Barrasso and Seth Wing sparked USM (4-2) with two goals each, with Wing adding two assists. Keegan Smith chipped in with a goal and five assists.
Betti finished with four goals for MMA (3-5) and now sits atop the MMA record books with 141 career goals, breaking the previous record of 138 held by Christopher Keiley.
USM’s John Bossi and Zach Bessette combined for seven saves and MMA’s James Wilgus had nine.
Husson 22, UMF 2
At Boucher Field in Bangor, Brandon Corbo recorded five goals and four assists to help the Eagles roll past the University of Maine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference action.
Zack Glazier chipped in with four goals and two assists for the Eagles, now 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the NAC. James Seager added three goals and two assists while Derek Driscoll had three goals and Jack White had two. Joseph Maldonado made 12 saves.
Tom McGowan and Cameron McAllister each scored a goal for UMF (0-7, 0-2) and Tom Lepage and Andrew Tarr combined for seven saves.
Softball
UMPI drops two
At Staunton, Virginia, Mary Baldwin College swept the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls in two mercy-rule games 12-3 and 8-0.
Olivia Compton scattered four hits and three runs to notch the win in the first game and Kate Dickinson recorded the game-two victory with four shutout innings while giving up five hits and a walk while striking out two.
Mary Baldwin is now 5-19 and UMPI is 3-7.
Shannon Brown sparked UMPI in the first game with a double and single while Katie Patenaude had a single and two RBIs.
Carly Bell and Danielle Smith each had two hits for UMPI in the second game.
