BANGOR, Maine — A police sergeant Friday evening pulled a 39-year-man from the edge of the Union Street overpass above Interstate 95, according to Bangor police.
The man, who has not been identified, was described by police as “distraught.”
He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation, Sgt. Jason Stuart said.
“About 5:55 p.m., we received a call about a man standing on the bridge looking down onto the traffic on the interstate,” he said. “The caller was concerned for his safety.
Both lanes of I-95 near and on Union Street were shut down for about an hour.
The incident ended about 7:10 p.m., according to Stuart.
The incident backed up traffic on I-95 for miles, according to witnesses.
