MEXICO, Maine — A woman who had her crutches stolen from the town’s Walmart on Wednesday has had them returned to her, according to police.

The theft occurred Wednesday around 4 p.m., Mexico Police Chief Ray Hodsdon said.

Hodsdon said shortly after 2 p.m. Friday that the crutches have been returned to the victim.

The woman, who has a birth defect and uses the crutches to get around, had left them near the entrance of Walmart while using a motorized cart to shop, according to Hodsdon.

When the victim returned to the front of the store, the crutches were gone.

Hodsdon said charges are pending.
