SEARSMONT, Maine — A Searsmont woman was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting her 9-month-old daughter, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Katherine Manchester, 28, is facing a charge of assault of a child under the age of 6, a Class C felony, according to Sheriff Jeff Trafton.
Trafton said Detective Gerald Lincoln received a complaint Friday of a child with injuries consistent with abuse.
Manchester subsequently was contacted and interviewed, then confessed she became frustrated with the infant and struck her in a manner that caused visible injuries to her face.
Manchester is being held without bail at the Waldo County Jail. No bail was allowed because of the new felony charge and she has two sets of pre-existing bail conditions, Trafton said.
