BANGOR, Maine — A South Carolina man admitted Friday in U.S. District Court that he imported crack cocaine, powdered cocaine and heroin from out of state and distributed the drugs in the Bangor area.

Terrance Douglas, 35, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, and, recently, Bangor, pleaded guilty to one count each of: conspiracy to distribute cocaine, cocaine base and heroin; possession with intent to distribute cocaine, cocaine base and heroin; and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Douglas, whose nickname is “Ray Ray,” traveled out of state between April and October 2014 by bus with large amounts of cash and returned with the drugs, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. He then prepared, packaged and distributed them from a local motel room.

When he was arrested in October with Tiffany Sutherland, 29, of Bangor, Douglas possessed a loaded Smith & Wesson .44 magnum pistol, according to the prosecution version of events to which he pleaded guilty.

Sutherland has pleaded not guilty to the same drug charges Douglas admitted to violating. Her trial date has not been set.

Both have been held without bail since their arrests.

Douglas faces between 10 years and life in federal prison and a fine of up to $8 million on the drug charges and a consecutive charge of between five years and life on the gun charge. His plea agreement with federal prosecutors said he would not appeal his sentence to the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unless it is longer than 10 years.

Sutherland faces between five and 40 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $5 million on the drug charges.

The investigation was conducted by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Bangor Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
