BANGOR — To celebrate its 150th anniversary, The Salvation Army, founded in London in 1865, the Bangor Salvation Army will host a Civic Luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Spectacular Event Center.

“The Many Faces of The Salvation Army,” the theme of the luncheon, will demonstrate how contributions to The Salvation Army make a difference in the lives of others. Special guest will be Commissioner W. Todd Bassett, retired United States national commander of The Salvation Army.

“So often people will say to me, ‘I didn’t realize The Salvation Army did that,’” said Capt. Tim Clark, corps officer of the Bangor Citadel Corps. “So many people trust us with their donations, but don’t realize the range of services to the community that we provide. The civic luncheon is an opportunity for us to tell our story, and to give a glimpse into the lives of others who have been enriched because The Salvation Army is there for them.”

Along with sharing about the many ways in which The Salvation Army serves the community — including the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, utility and heating assistance, summer camp for children, a food pantry, clothing assistance and more — several long-time supporters and volunteers will be recognized for their faithful service in giving back to the community.

Tickets for the luncheon are $15 each, and includes a full meal. Tickets may be purchased at The Salvation Army and at use.salvationarmy.org/Bangor. Donors also may become an event sponsor for $150.
