PORTLAND, Maine — What started as a routine traffic stop for a Maine State Police trooper quickly turned into a life or death situation.

When Trooper Doug Cropper pulled the driver over on Interstate 295 in Portland, he says the man was talking and acting normally at first, but when he went back to the car to return the driver’s license and registration, the driver was unconscious and turning blue.

Cropper dragged the man out of the car and at the same time an ER nurse driving by pulled over and helped administer CPR.

EMS crews arrived shortly after and gave the man Narcan, which enabled the man to get up and walk around on his own. Police are not releasing the man’s name.
