ST. ALBANS, Maine — A local man was arrested late Tuesday after leading Somerset County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed pursuit, according to Chief Deputy James Ross.
Christopher Devoe, 32, is facing charges of eluding an officer and failing to stop for a police officer, according to Ross.
The series of events started at 10 p.m. when Deputy Toby Blodgett, who was on patrol in St. Albans, was asked by Newport police to locate a black Honda Accord which Devoe was driving, Ross said. Devoe had allegedly been involved in an undisclosed incident in Newport earlier in the day.
As Blodgett approached on Main Street in St. Albans, the vehicle was driving erratically but eventually pulled over, Ross said. But Devoe took off at a high rate of speed, and the chase reached speeds near 100 miles per hour, according to Ross.
Eventually, Blodgett terminated the chase for safety reasons and followed the vehicle at a safe speed, Ross said. The deputy later found the vehicle crashed in a ditch on Ripley Road, and a canine unit was able to locate Devoe hiding in the woods.
Devoe was brought to the Somerset County Jail after his arrest.
