AUGUSTA, Maine — A local man arrested earlier this week in connection with numerous burglaries in Kennebec County was formally charged by police on Thursday.

Michael Joseph Gagne, 38, allegedly burglarized six Augusta businesses between March 26 and April 27, according to Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills.

Gagne had been arrested on Tuesday on a probation hold.

The businesses Gagne is accused of burglarizing include Twins Country Store on two occasions, Red Barn, C&S Market, Capilos School of Hair, Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shop and Denny’s on two occasions, according to Mills.

Mills said the incidents remain under investigation and more charges are anticipated in connection with the burglary ring, which police say includes 30 burglaries.

Gagne is being held at the Kennebec County Jail.
