Augusta’s Julia Clukey is one of eight Olympians named to the USA Luge national team this week.

A Vancouver Olympian in 2010, Clukey overcame numerous physical issues to become USA Luge’s top-ranked woman racer and sixth-ranked in the world during the 2012-2013 season, which was highlighted by a World Cup silver medal in Lake Placid.

Clukey narrowly missed returning to the Olympics in 2014, coming up .013 seconds short in the final qualifying race.

After pondering retirement, Clukey returned to World Cup competition last winter and finished 17th in the women’s singles final at the 45th International Luge Federation World Championships.

The 2015-16 U.S. World Cup contingent will be selected from the national team.
