AUGUSTA, Maine — Traffic on Water Street was disrupted Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer got stuck underneath a train trestle, police said.

The 22-year old driver, whose name was not disclosed, was not injured but he did not see the height warnings signs, according to Augusta Police Lt. Kevin Lully.

The crash was reported shortly before 9 a.m., Lully said. The truck was hauling building material, and a marginal amount of its load spilled onto Water Street.

Lully said speed does not appear to be a factor, but the driver was not familiar with the area.

The trailer and the load of commodities were substantially damaged in the crash, Lully said. State Trooper Shawn Porter also responded to inspect the truck.
