LAGRANGE – Forest M. French, 81, passed away on May 9, 2015 at Colonial Health Care in Howland, Maine surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on September 9, 1933 to Fred M. and Barbara (Mason) French. After graduating from Edward Little High School in Lewiston, he joined the United States Navy and served in the Medical Corps on the Battleship IOWA during the Korean War. After completing his military service, he graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Public Administration, and then served as Town Manager of Sangerville, Freeport, and Orono Maine. He then furthered his education at the University of Maine and retired as a Professor working as a Community Development Specialist for the United States Extension Service at the University of Maine Orono. His retirement years were spent at his farm in Lagrange, enjoying all his farming activities and farm animals. Many cherished and memorable hours were spent with his sons fishing, hunting and trapping. He will be lovingly missed by all his family.
Forest is survived by his beloved wife Rosabelle; a daughter Lana and son-in-law Eric; granddaughters Stacey and Amber; a son Malcolm and daughter-in-law Barbara; grandson Thomas; a son Martin and daughter-in-law Lisa; grandchildren John and Sarah; a sister Sharon; nephews Mark, Brian, David, and Kevin Gallagher and a special cousin Kenneth Lothrope in Minot Maine.
The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Health Care and a special thank you to Judith and Lana who helped care for Forest during his illness.
At his request, there will be a graveside service during the summer at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lagrange. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
