SANFORD, Maine — An overnight fire in Sanford displaced 12 residents. Sanford Fire Chief Steven Benotti says the call came in around 1:30 a.m. Friday for a fire at an apartment building on River Street.

At 5 a.m., crews had the main fire out, but were working on several trouble spots. The Red Cross is assisting the 12 people who lived in the three-story apartment building.

Benotti believes the fire started in the back on the second floor and then spread up the backside of the building and into the attic.

No one was hurt.
