SWANVILLE, Maine — A Swanville man was seriously injured over the weekend after going off the road and violently striking a tree with his vehicle.

Steven McFadden, 45, was the driver and only occupant of the 1999 Volvo, which went off the Oak Hill Road at a little after 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. McFadden was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his car upon impact, Trundy said.

Belfast Ambulance took him to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast and he was later taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter.

“Speed appears to be a factor,” Trundy said in a media release.

The crash is still being investigated, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockland Police Department have helped to reconstruct it.

Eastern Maine Medical Center officials said Monday that McFadden was listed in fair condition.
