THORNDIKE, Maine — The Mount View school complex was placed on a lock-out status for about half an hour Tuesday morning while police investigated a report that a juvenile male may have taken a handgun to school.
A resident called police to report that they had seen the youth waiting Tuesday morning for the school bus at the end of a driveway in the town of Freedom and that they thought he had a handgun with him, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The youth, whose age or name was not immediately available, was picked up by the bus.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped the bus and found the student, whom they safely got off the bus, Lt. Jason Trundy wrote in the media release.
“The investigation of the incident revealed that the male juvenile was in possession of a pellet gun prior to entering the bus but had left the pellet gun at the residence,” Trundy wrote.
The school complex includes Mount View Elementary School, Mount View Middle School and Mount View High School. Trundy wrote the complex was on lock-out status until the situation was resolved.
