BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department’s annual bicycle auction will sell off unclaimed lost and stolen bikes collected over the past year by local officers.
Proceeds from the event will be split between the police department and the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department.
The auction is scheduled for Saturday at Bangor Parks and Recreation Building at 647 Main St. Bidders will be allowed to enter the premises at 8 a.m. to inspect the bicycles.
The auction will begin at 9 a.m., running until all of the bikes are sold. Officer Jason McAmberley said Friday about a half dozen of the 42 bikes set to hit the auction block this year were donated.
The rest come from unclaimed lost and stolen bikes collected by the police department last year. McAmberley anticipated additional bike donations would be made the morning of the auction.
“Every year, we auction off what we have because we need space for this year’s crop,” he said.
This year’s crop includes Trek and Giant mountain bikes, as well as children’s bikes, McAmberly said.
“There are some nice bikes,” he said.
Some of the bikes are broken and will be sold only for parts, he said.
Last year, the auction raised about $1,200.
