KITTERY, Maine — A York County man was arrested on Thursday on a heroin trafficking charge, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Cole Dalton, 29, of Wells, had allegedly been making frequent trips to Massachusetts to purchase heroin for sale in southern Maine, according to McCausland.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials and Kittery police had been investigating heroin distribution in the town over the past month.
On Thursday, police stopped Dalton on Route 236 in Kittery after they learned Dalton was returning to Maine from Massachusetts with heroin, McCausland said. Police found 18 grams of contraband with a street value of $3,000 in the vehicle.
Dalton was charged with aggravated heroin trafficking and brought to the York County Jail. His bail was set at $30,000.
Additional arrests are likely as the investigation continues.
