SIDNEY, Maine — A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday afternoon and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by helicopter for treatment after a crash on Interstate 95.
Michael Tracy, 59, of Waldoboro may have suffered a medical problem at about 5:30 p.m. as he was traveling south near mile marker 120 in Sidney, causing the single-motorcycle accident, according to Trooper Diane Vance of the Maine State Police.
“Alcohol and speed were not factors,” she said Sunday night, adding that she had heard that Tracy was still alive at about 9 p.m.
A hospital official said she had no information about Tracy’s condition.
Tracy’s wife, Cynthia Tracy, 56, also of Waldoboro was his passenger, and both suffered injuries in the accident. Hers were considered to be “severe” but not life-threatening, Vance said, and she was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta for treatment.
Neither of the Tracys were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, Vance said.
A Lifeflight of Maine helicopter landed on I-95 to pick up Michael Tracy and bring him to Bangor, Vance said. The interstate was shut down for 30 to 45 minutes for the emergency medical evacuation. Travel was reduced to one lane for more than three hours while emergency responders worked to clear the accident scene, she said.
Delta Ambulance and Sidney Rescue also helped at the scene, Vance said.
