WALLAGRASS, Maine — A young northern Maine woman was killed after she lost control of her car Wednesday morning on Strip Road in Wallagrass, according to the Maine State Police.
Sgt. Josh Haines said Alesha Kelley, 21, of Wallagrass was traveling south coming from Route 161 when she lost control of her 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse in a corner just before 10 a.m.
The car skidded off the road into a ditch and struck several trees before coming to rest on its side and catching fire, Haines said.
Responding officers and members of the Fort Kent Volunteer Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, Haines said.
Kelley, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was declared dead at the scene as a result of her injuries, according to Haines. Speed is considered to have been a factor, he said.
Trooper Dan Marquis investigated the accident assisted by Troopers Darryl Pelletier, Rob Flynn and Haines.
Officers with the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Forest Service also assisted at the scene.
