NEW LIMERICK, Maine — A man allegedly assaulted three people in New Limerick, stole a vehicle and then crashed it, according to Maine State Police.
Dustin Smith will be facing charges including aggravated assault and unauthorized use of a vehicle in connection with the incident, police said.
Police were called to a New Limerick home at about 10 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that several individuals at the home had been assaulted.
Police learned Dustin Smith allegedly had assaulted three people at the residence.
Smith had fled the scene before police arrived, and a state police K-9 was called in to track him.
While the search was underway, police located a vehicle that had crashed a short distance from the scene of the incident. The vehicle allegedly had been stolen by Smith, who failed to negotiate a sharp turn on Station Road in New Limerick. Smith had been ejected from the vehicle and pinned under it, police said.
Smith was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The three individuals who had been assaulted were also transported to Houlton Regional Hospital and were later admitted at that facility, police said.
