ROCKLAND, Maine — The continued divide on the Rockland-area school board was evident Thursday night as members re-elected their chairman but replaced the vice chair.

The Regional School Unit 13 board voted 6-3 to re-elect Steve Roberts as chairman of the board. He received the votes of himself and board members Loren Andrews of Cushing, Ron Gamage and Noreen Mullaney of Thomaston, Sherman Hoyt of St. George and Nancy Jeffers of Rockland.

Roberts outpolled Donald Robishaw of Rockland, who received his vote and that of Esther “Tess” Kilgour of Rockland and Christine Curtis of South Thomaston.

Andrews said Roberts had done a great job and has provided vision and clarity to the board. Roberts has been chairman of the board since March 2014.

For vice chairman, Curtis unseated Andrews on a 5-4 vote.

Curtis was supported by herself, Kilgour, Robishaw, Jeffers and Gamage.

Andrews had been vice chairman since July 2012.

The board also accepted the resignations of several staff members during its Thursday night meeting. The resignations include Kathy Hollicker, who has been principal of Rockland District Middle School since July 2009.
